Officer injured during traffic stop; search for suspect underway

At 4:02 am a Boise Police officer was conducting a criminal investigation when he performed a traffic stop near Vista and Spaulding.  The traffic stop ended with the suspect vehicle and the patrol vehicle facing each other.  When the officer was approaching the car, the driver intentionally drove his vehicle toward the officer, striking the officer and his patrol car. The driver then fled the scene. It’s believed there were at least two people in the suspect’s vehicle.

Additional officers and paramedics arrived on scene and the injured officer was rushed to a local hospital. He has since been released and is expected to make a full recovery.  The patrol car was towed with front end damage and damage to the drivers side of the vehicle.

Boise Police officers and detectives are continuing to search for the suspect and follow up on leads. The suspect's vehicle, a Hyundai Sonata, was found abandoned near Hillcrest Dr. (photo below)  Officers conducted an extensive area search which included a K9 tracking team, but did not locate the suspects who fled on foot.  Officers do not believe the suspects are still in the immediate area.
