Boise man arrested after investigation reveals multiple victims of online extortion

Suspect: Rizwan Y. Ghumman, 33, Boise

Charges: Grand Theft by Extortion (F) – 3 counts

Boise Police arrested a man after a four month long investigation into multiple reports of extortion.  In April police received information that a woman had been threatened by a man she met on an online dating application.  The suspect threatened to send nude photos of the victim to her friends if she didn’t continue to send him additional sexually explicit content via video chat.  The suspect used several false names and during the course of the investigation officers were able to identify two additional victims who reported similar threats from someone with the same false name.  Officers were able to positively identify the suspect as Rizwan Ghumman and a search warrant was served on August 7th.  Officers arrested the suspect following the search warrant and he was booked into the Ada County Jail on the above charges.  The Boise police department is searching for additional victims who may have been the victim of a similar ploy to extort sexually explicit pictures and/or videos from females using dating applications.

The suspect was using the name “Mark Wallace” and “Soldier Boy,” and officers believe there may be additional victims.  If you believe you have been a victim, please contact non-emergency dispatch at 208-377-6790 or Crime Stoppers: at 208-343-COPS (2677), www.343COPS.com, or leave a tip using the “P3 Tips” app for your mobile device.
