Man arrested on felony charges after fleeing police in stolen car

Arrested:  Colby Sage, 20, Boise

Charged:  Grand Theft (F), Fleeing or Eluding an Officer (F)

Around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, BPD Officers on Fairview Avenue noticed a vehicle that had been reported stolen in the City of Moscow.  As officers prepared to conduct a traffic stop they followed the vehicle at a normal distance as it entered Garden City.  Officers attempted a traffic stop as the vehicle slowed in front of a residence, but the driver of the vehicle did not stop and instead drove away.  Officers did not pursue the vehicle, and other officers in the area were notified that the vehicle had fled.  Garden City Police officers reported seeing the vehicle driving westbound on Chinden Boulevard at a high rate of speed into oncoming traffic.  The suspected driver, later identified as Sage, continued westbound on Chinden before losing control of the vehicle and crashing in the area of 44th Street.  Officers quickly responded and found the vehicle on its side with smoke coming out of it, possibly on fire.  The driver was able to exit the vehicle and officers safely took him into custody as the flames were extinguished by another officer with a fire extinguisher.  Paramedics also responded to the scene and the suspect was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries.  He was later cleared and transported to the Ada County Jail.
