Officer-Involved Shooting on 27th Street

Tonight at 7:43 pm officers performed a traffic stop on a vehicle on 27th Street between Main St. and W. Fairview Ave. Officers approached the car and made contact with the female driver and a male subject in the backseat.

The male suspect displayed a firearm and threatened the officers and the female.  Additional officers responded to the scene and multiple commands were given to the suspect in the vehicle. Due to the immediate danger presented by the suspect, two Boise Police officers were forced to fire their weapons.  The male suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“This was understandably a very traumatic situation for the female driver.  We are thankful she is now safe and was not hurt,” said Boise Police Deputy Chief Eugene Smith.

The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force (CITF) led by the Idaho State Police has been activated to investigate the shooting.  Officers body camera video will be reviewed as part of the investigation.

The information in this news release is considered preliminary pending the results of the CITF investigation.
