Officers Arrest Woman for Starting her House on Fire while Children were Inside

Boise, Oct. 3, 2013 - Boise Police Arson Detectives say a fire that destroyed an East Boise home last winter was deliberately set while three children were left inside the exploding home.

Arrested: Jodi R. Bassett, 35, Garden City

Charged: Arson 1st degree (F), Felony Injury to a Child - 3 counts

The Arrest: The suspect, Bassett was arrested by Garden City Police late last night at a residence, several hours after Ada County Prosecutors issued a warrant for her arrest on the above charges.

What Happened: Boise Firefighters were called to a house fire on the 3900 block of S. Yorktown Way at 2:28 a.m. December 19, 2012. Several neighbors had called 911 reporting explosions coming from the house. When officers and firefighters arrived, they found the front windows blown out and the garage door bulging in the middle. One explosion had knocked a living room wall off the foundation. Firefighters narrowly escaped injury as one of the explosions occurred just as the first fire crews were arriving on scene. The explosions engulfed the house in fire.

Fortunately, three children inside the home were able to escape without injury.

Almost immediately, fire investigators identified the cause of the fire as suspicious. Evidence collected pointed to the suspect who was a resident of the house at the time of the fire.

The children have not been in the custody of the suspect since the incident. To protect the children who are victims of this crime, no further identifying information is available from Boise PD at this time. The young victims have been receiving support and assistance through the Boise Police Department Victim Services Unit.

Arraignment: The suspect, Bassett is scheduled for arraignment this afternoon. Please check 4th District Court calendars to confirm.
