UPDATE: Charges Filed: Officers Investigate Overnight Shooting

UPDATE: May 13, 2013, 3:50 p.m. - The Ada County Coroner has identified the young man killed over the weekend as Austin Tyler Blankenburg, 20 of Kuna. The coroner indicates the time of death to be 11:41 p.m., May 11, 2013. Blankenburg died of a gunshot wound to the head.



Boise, May 13, 2013, 9:40 a.m. -  Sadly, the victim in Friday night's shooting in a Boise bench home has died of his injuries. The man suspected in the shooting, a relative of the victim, has been arrested on involuntary manslaughter charges. At this time, it appears the shooting was accidental. Alcohol appears to have been a factor. 

   Arrested: Derick L. Sedivy, 23, Boise

   Charges: Involuntary Manslaughter (F)

What Happened:  Boise Police detectives, working with Ada County Prosecutors and the Ada County Coroner’s Office have been investigating the case since the shooting was reported at 10:19 p.m. Friday night (see previous release dated May 11). The suspect has been in custody since the investigation began. The Ada County Coroner will release the identity of the victim. The suspect will be arraigned this afternoon.

ISC 18-4006. Manslaughter defined. Manslaughter is the unlawful killing of a human being including, but not limited to, (2)Involuntary -- in the perpetration of or attempt to perpetrate any unlawful act, other than those acts specified in section 18-4003(d), Idaho Code; or in the commission of a lawful act which might produce death, in an unlawful manner, or without due caution and circumspection; or in the operation of any firearm or deadly weapon in a reckless, careless or negligent manner which produces death.

Boise, May 11, 2013 - 2:30 p.m. - Boise Police are investigating a shooting overnight. At this time, one young man is hospitalized with injuries.

What Happened: Officers were called to a home in the area of S. Orchard and Cassia Streets last night shortly after 10:00 p.m. When they arrived they found one man with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. Several others were in the home at the time of the incident. All involved are well known to each other and have been questioned by officers.  At this time the nature of the circumstances that led to the shooting are under investigation, including if the shooting was intentional.

Due to the details of this incident that remain under investigation, no further information is available for public release at this time. Additional information will be released as the investigation allows.
