Alcohol Compliance Checks and Weekend Party Patrols

Alcohol Compliance Checks

   Friday night, August 24th, alcohol retailer compliance checks lead to 91 Boise/Meridian area establishments being checked and 11 Providing Alcohol to Minor Citations. 

  Last weekend Boise PD and Meridian PD conducted a back to school compliance check operation.  With Treasure Valley schools beginning along with Boise State University starting up this week, Officers wanted to remind retailers of the importance of checking ID and really watching for minors who are trying to acquire alcohol.
Boise PD used three female minor decoys ages 19, 19 and 18 years old. Meridian PD used two minor decoys both 18 years old.  Overall 10 different retail establishments were cited for providing alcohol to a minor. Some of the establishments cited did check the minors ID’s, many other establishments did not even ask for identification.

Boise Police checked 79 retail establishments with 9 establishments failing.  Those who failed were:

-Albertsons at Gary Lane/State
-Applebes at Gary Lane/State
-Jacksons at Emerald/Garden
-Tobacco Connection at Cassia/Vista
-Gem Stop Chevron at VMP/Chinden
-Stinker at Broadway/Howe
-Jacksons at Cherry Lane/Vista
-Fred Meyer at Federal Way/Findley
-Maverick Station at 5200 Chinden Blvd.

   For some of the Boise establishments, this was their 2nd violation in a year for selling alcohol to a minor. 
Meridian PD cited 2 individuals for providing alcohol to a minor. Meridian PD checked 12 retail establishments with 1 of the retailers selling alcohol to a minor.  Meridian PD also had 1 other adult who purchased alcohol for their minors.
The Meridian retail establishment who failed was Walgreens at Ten Mile/Cherry Ln.

Weekend Party Patrol
On Saturday evening, Boise PD along with Ada County Juvenile Probation conducted an underage drinking party patrol throughout the city of Boise. Officers stayed very busy with several very intoxicated minors ranging in age from 16-20 years old.  Many of the minors were openly consuming alcohol in the middle of the street while walking to and from parties.  In one instance officers observed a group of minors parked behind a retail building off Broadway.  Three minors entered the store, stole two large cases of beer and ran out of the store to the awaiting vehicle.  The minors were ultimately caught and charged with burglary.  All of the minors were high school students from local area schools.
Overall the following 38 citations/charges were issued:

25-Underage Drinking/Minor in Possession of Alcohol Citations
3-Open Container of Alcohol Violations
4-Felony Burglary Charges
2-Curfew Violations
1-Tobacco Violation
1-Reckless Driving
1-Providing False Information to Police
1-Minor was arrested for DUI (She also had two other minors in the vehicle who had been drinking alcohol)
Items of note:

-One female had a blood alcohol content of a .21 which was the highest of the evening.  It was also her 3rd underage drinking ticket
-Almost every minor who was contacted by officers was coming from or going to another party.
