DUI Driver Eludes Police; Drug Suspect accused of battering officer; BPD Daily Incident Report

Arrested: Julio Hurtado, 30, Boise

Charged: Eluding Officers (F), DUI (m), Hit & Run (m), Resisting & Obstructing Officers (m)

Boise Police officers on patrol at approximately 1:20 this morning saw the driver of an SUV  traveling eastbound  on Main Street near N. 5th driving approx. 50 mph in a zone posted 30 mph. Officers attempted to stop the suspect just east of Broadway Ave. on Warm Springs Ave, however when the officer turned on his siren the suspect  sped away, running the stop signs northbound on  Ave. C  at Jefferson and at Krall Streets.  The suspect crashed his vehicle into a fence, taking out about 24 feet of fence and a large section of bark off a tree in front of a home on the 500 block of Logan St. He then ran off on foot but was quickly caught by officers while running through a nearby backyard. The suspect continued to refuse to comply with numerous commands given by the officers. An officer deployed his Taser which allowed officers to take the suspect into custody. Officers could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the suspect. A blood draw was done for evidentiary purposes at the Ada County Jail. The suspect was charged with the above offenses and booked into the Ada County Jail.

Charged: Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer (F), Possession of Marijuana (m), Possession of drug paraphernalia (m)

Following up on a citizen tip, the Boise Police Neighborhood Contact Officer for the Orchard area knocked on the suspect’s door Wednesday afternoon, June 6,  investigating the complaint of drug use at the home on the 3900 block of W. Alpine Street. During the investigation while an officer was holding the suspect’s arm, he reportedly made verbal threats to hit and shoot the officers. The suspect began to thrash around. During a struggle to get him into control, the suspect is accused of intentionally using his knee to drive into the officer’s upper thigh causing injury. The suspect was arrested on the above charges and booked into the Ada County Jail.
