Charged: Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver - Marijuana (F), Eluding Police (m)

A Boise Police officer on patrol near Sunflower Lane and N. Mitchell Street shortly after 10:00 p.m. last night was following a tan Chevy Cavalier as it crossed into the oncoming lanes of traffic on Mitchell and parked on the wrong side of the road. A man walked up to the parked vehicle and, to the officer, it appeared he handed something to the driver. When the officer pulled closer, he shined a spotlight toward the vehicle and the man on foot ran off. The vehicle also sped off, immediately accelerating to a speed of over 50 mph northbound on Mitchell. The officer caught up to the car as it stopped on the 2600 blk of Mitchell. Officers arrested the driver, Chapa for eluding. A Meridian Police K9 team was called to the scene. The police service dog alerted on the suspect's vehicle indicating the likely presence of illegal drugs. Officers found a backpack belonging to the suspect containing scales and two baggies, one containing 23 grams of marijuana (total package weight) and the other containing two grams of marijuana (TPW).  The suspect was arrested on the above charges and booked into the Ada County Jail.
