Law Enforcement agencies work together to curb Underage Drinking

06-20-11 Law Enforcement agencies work together to curb Underage Drinking

"This kind of cooperation, being proactive and doing what we can to curb the kind of dangerous behaviors that can lead to tragedy is what community based law enforcement is all about." says officer Jermaine Galloway with Boise Police who took part in this weekends operation. "Making a difference in our neighborhoods and with our young people."

What happened:On Saturday night, June 18th, multiple agencies partnered together for a county wide graduation season underage drinking party/kegger patrol to curb underage drinking and help keep young people safe. The agencies represented included Boise Police Department, Ada County Sheriffs Office, Bureau of Land Management, Idaho Forest Service, Idaho State Police, Ada County Juvenile Probation and The Idaho National Guard Drug Demand Reduction Program.

Officers spent hours checking areas throughout the county where underage drinkers have been known to frequent. One problem which did reduce the size of minors who were out in these areas drinking alcohol, was the bad weather with temperatures in the 50's and rain showers on and off throughout the day.  This definitely had an impact on the amount of people who were outside consuming alcohol. Officers still remained busy and productive. Overall 42 criminal charges were issued, 26 of those charges were for underage drinking.

One medium size party in the city was broken up. The party near the college included young people ranging in age from 17-20 years old. Some of the party goers were high school kids from neighboring cities. Several people were charged with drug related offenses including marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession.

Overall the following citations were issued:

26-Illegal consumption of alcohol
5-Possession of Marijuana
4-Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
3-Open Container of Alcohol
2-Resisting & Obstructing Officer
1-Disorderly House/Social Hosting
2-Individuals arrested for other charges
