06-06-11 Citizens help officers find drug, burglary suspects; daily incident report

Arrested: Brandon W. Long, 29, Meridian
Charges: Burglary (F) - 4 counts

This morning, shortly after 2:00 a.m., Boise Police were called by the resident of a home south of N. 27th & W. State Streets. The man told officers he woke up hearing someone attempting to break into his home by trying to pry open a locked door. The resident said he yelled and the would-be intruder ran off. Just outside the door officers found evidence of an attempted break in and a jacket and a small pile of items apparently left behind by the suspect. Officers noticed the items appeared to have come from vehicles, including a GPS device and a radar detector, along with an I-Phone.

30 minutes later, as officers were searching the area for the suspect, they contacted a man walking one block north of the attempted burglary. Officers noticed his pockets were bulging. They asked the man to empty his pockets. He did, revealing several sets of keys and numerous other items including a pair of women's earrings, an I-Phone car charger and a junior hockey league medal. Officers tracked down the owner of the I-Phone who reported it had just been taken from inside a nearby residence. The phone's owner told officers they had scared a man off after finding him inside their home a short time earlier, but had not called police to report the incident.

After further investigation, and after contacting owners of the items found in the suspect Long's possession, officers charged Long with four counts of burglary; one for stealing the I-Phone from inside a residence, two counts for two vehicle burglaries discovered in the neighborhood, and one for the attempted break-in.
