UPDATE: Body found - no indication of foul play

03-30-11 UPDATE: Body found - no indication of foul play

Boise, March 30, 2011 9:20 a.m. - The body found in an irrigation ditch in a field near Curtis Rd. & Fairview Ave. yesterday has been positively identified by the Ada County Coroner as Michael K. Freeman, 53 of Boise. Boise Police investigators have not identified a permanent address for Mr. Freeman but believe he was staying in a home near where his body was found.

The coroner has released that Freeman died of blunt force trauma to the head. At this time, investigators believe Mr. Freeman was riding his bicycle across the field, likely early morning Tuesday, March 29th, and did not see the irrigation ditch, approx. four feet deep that runs through the open field. Investigators believe the man fell off his bike and into the ditch causing the head injury. He was not wearing a helmet. At this time there is no evidence of foul play.

Boise Police detectives say Mr. Freeman was last seen in the early evening of Monday, March 28th. His body was found at 1:42 p.m. Tuesday, March 29th. Officers are asking anyone who saw Mr. Freeman Monday night or early Tuesday to please contact Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS, or log onto, or text CRIMES or 274637, subject: Tip236.

Boise, March 29, 2011, 4:25 p.m. - Boise Police are working with the Ada County Coroner after a man's body was found in a ditch this afternoon in a field northwest of Curtis and Fairview.

Officers on scene say after a preliminary investigation they've found no evidence of foul play. They say there's some indication the man's death may be the result of a bike accident. Officers will work with the Ada County Coroner to determine more on the cause of the man's death, as well as a positive ID.

What Happened: A Boise Patrol officer was flagged down by a citizen at 1:42 this afternoon near the intersection of Everett and Hartman Streets. The citizen reported finding the body to the officer, who then followed the citizen and found the body of an adult male laying in a dry irrigation ditch. Near the body was a mountain bike. The irrigation ditch is about four feet deep and runs through an open field near the intersection.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
