DUI driver found after plowing through backyards; daily incident report

10-19-10 DUI driver found after plowing through backyards; daily incident report

Boise, Oct 19, 2010 - Boise Police say it was fairly quiet overnight, with the exception of a drunk driver found by police after she apparently drove through several residents backyards.

Arrested: Jennifer D. Wood, 31, Boise

    Charge: DUI (m)(2nd offense)

Boise Police were called by a citizen reporting a possible drunk driver on Northview shortly after 2:00 a.m. this morning. Officers responded to the area quickly but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Several minutes later, officers were called again to the 6900 blk of W Irving by a neighbor reporting a crash that just occurred. Officers recognized the vehicle description as very similar to the previous call of a possible drunk driver.

The neighbor told police dispatchers that the driver had struck a fence and drove behind his apartment in the grassy common area, then came to a stop. The citizen told dispatchers he went to check on the driver and found she appeared intoxicated. As the citizen waited for police, he told officers he removed the keys from the vehicle for safety reasons.

When officers arrived, the driver, later identified as the suspect, Wood, was still sitting in the driver seat of the vehicle.  Officers noticed she smelled strongly of the odor of an alcoholic beverage.  As officers continued to investigate, several other homeowners in the area came outside and reported to officers they'd found tire tracks and broken trees in their backyards.

The suspect was taken to jail where a blood draw was done for evidence. Officers found the suspect has a past DUI conviction in July, 2008, making this a second offense DUI.
