Boise area Crime Stoppers wins International Award!

    Boise, Sept. 30, 2010 - The Boise area Crime Stoppers program has earned an international award for a big increase in the number of arrests connected to a citizens tips last year! 

    The Crime Stoppers International Conference was held recently in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Nearly 300 people from all around the World attended the conference in beautiful Halifax. The conference gave delegates a chance to network and share ideas for their Crime Stoppers programs world-wide.

    During the conference, Jan VanHouten, Boise PD's Crime Stoppers coordinator was awarded the 2010 Productivity Award given for the greatest increase in arrests for our population category. Van Houten accepted the award on behalf of the Boise Area Crime Stoppers Board of Directors and the citizens of the Treasure Valley. 

    Boise area Crime Stoppers related arrests increased from 43 in 2008 to 73 in 2009! Citizen calls to Boise Crime Stoppers also increased over the same time from 2,866 calls to 4043 calls! And reward money approved by Crime Stoppers to citizens whose information results in an arrest increased from $2,450 in 2008 to $4,450 in '09, totalling $77,115 in Crime Stoppers rewrd money since the program began in 1989!

    As you know, our local Crime Stoppers program is very involved with the community in helping solve crimes. It's because the community, the media and law enforcement cooperate on sighting crime that Boise's Crime Stoppers program continues to grow.
