07-29-10 - Underage DUI Driver Injures 2; Rape charges; daily felony arrests
Boise, July 29, 2010 - Boise Police arrested a 20 year old for several felonies after reports that the pick up he was driving in reverse at excessive speeds ran into a fence injuring a teenage girl in the back of the truck, and then injured a witness as he drove off attempting to flee from the crash.
Arrested: Nathan D. Workman, 20, Boise
Charges: DUI (F), Hit & Run (F), Injury to a Child (F) Failure to Appear Warrants
Boise Police were called to the 600 blk of S. Phillippi Wednesday morning approx 10:30 a.m. Witnesses reported that a pick up with two people in the back had driven at excessive speeds, up to 60 mph in a 30 mph zone, up Phillippi to Franklin. Witnesses told officers the pick up then went in reverse, again driving at excessive speeds, and crashed into two garbage cans and a chain link fence.
One neighbor who tells officers he saw the crash says it appeared on the teens in the back of the pick up, a young girl, had cried out when the truck hit the fence and part of the fence hit her in the leg. The witness tells officers as he approached the truck to see if everyone was alright, the driver sped off dragging a piece of the chain link fence that had caught on the truck. Witnesses say the man was then hit by the dragging fence, throwing him into the air, landing some distance away in the road.
Officers arrived and quickly located the truck, then the driver at a nearby home. Paramedics were called and both the teenager girl who was riding in the back of the pick up and the adult male neighbor were taken to a nearby hospital and treated and released for injuries; the girl suffered a leg injury, the man some severe scrapes and bruises.
After further investigation, the driver of the pick up, Workman, was found to be under the influence of alcohol and arrested on the above charges. Officers also found Workman's driver's license was suspended for no proof of insurance and other traffic infractions.
