Firefighters, Police report quiet July 4th Weekend

07-05-10 Firefighters, Police report quiet July 4th Weekend

Boise, July 5, 2010 - The Boise Fire Battalion Chief working over the weekend of July 3rd & 4th says this has been the quietest July 4th holiday weekend in memory.

Boise Fire responded to approx 5 calls of grass fires. Just two of the grass fires were still burning when firefighters arrived, and both of those - one on the canal bank behind Borah High and one in a field near McGlochlin & Cole - were very small and put out quickly by the first responding engine.

Firefighters say the wet/cool spring still has grasses somewhat green which kept fires from spreading quikcly. Also, the large displays put on at several public locations around the valley gave families a safe, enjoyable way to celebrate the 4th!

Boise Police: BPD commanders also report few calls of complaints about fireworks. Officers say they did give some warnings. At this time records are not available as to how many - if any citations for illegal fireworks were issued.
