BPD Advisory: Incident at 333 North Sailfish

01-12-10 BPD Advisory: Incident at 333 North Sailfish
BPD Advisory: Incident at 333 North Sailfish
What Happened: This morning (January 12th) at approximately 9:00 a.m. a Boise Police Evidence Technician was preparing to process an item of evidence in the Crime Lab located at 333 North Sailfish (BPD Headquarters at City Hall West). The evidence consisted of a "Molotov Cocktail" that had already been ignited, and then put out with a fire extinguisher a number of weeks ago. The evidence had then been placed in a locker (Confined space) for further testing. The technician was wearing the appropriate protective equipment at the time. We believe the technician may have gotten a small amount of the powder from the fire extinguisher material on her face when the package was opened this morning. At the time, she complained of eye irritation and notified a supervisor.
Boise Fire and Hazmat responded to the scene to ensure safety. The technician has been examined by medical personnel and is not being transported to a hospital. The immediate area within the Crime Lab (a secure facility within the building) was temporarily cleared. The building was not evacuated. Crews are beginning to clear the scene.
