10-26-09 UPDATE: Loose dog appears to cause Connector Collisions

Boise, Oct. 26, 2009 - Boise Police are investigating three separate collisions that all occurred on the outbound connector shortly after 10:00 a.m.this morning. Investigating officers say the motorists involved appeared to be trying to avoid a dog loose on the connector.

What Happened: Shortly after 10:00 a.m., Boise Police were called to an injury accident on I-184 outbound at the Garden City exit. Boise Police and Boise Fire rescue personnel, along with EMS responded.

Officers found 6 cars in all involved in three separate collisions, all appeared to be rear-end collisions. One person was taken to St. Luke's hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

Officers interviewed motorists and several witnesses who all described a large yellow lab running across the outbound lanes as the connector crosses the river. The collisions apparently occurred as motorists swerved to try and avoid the dog. The dog was last seen by a Boise Police officer running west toward the river. The dog did not appear to be injured and was not located.

Outbound lanes of traffic were blocked, and outbound traffic was restricted for approx. one hour as emergency crews worked to clear and investigate the accidents.

After investigating, officers say they will not cite those motorists involved. However, reports will be sent to prosecutors for review.
