09-24-09 Arrest in Homicide Investigation
Boise, Sept. 24, 2009, 8:30 a.m. - Boise Police have made an arrest in an early morning homicide that occurred during a fight outside a downtown adult entertainment business.
Arrested: Tariq McWilliams, 31, Idaho City
Charges: Murder 2nd degree, Driving Without Privileges (m)
What happened: Boise Police responded to a call of a stabbing in the parking lot of an adult entertainment bar on the 1800 blk. of W. Main Street at 1:02 a.m. this morning. The caller reported to dispatch the victim had been stabbed in the upper torso.
When officers arrived they found one victim, a Boise man in his 30's. The man was immediately transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses, who were very cooperative, told officers a verbal altercation began in the parking lot between several men turned physical just prior to the stabbing. Witnesses were able to give police a description of the vehicle the suspect was in that had just left the area, a red SUV.
A Boise Police patrol officer positioned himself at the entrance to the outbound connector and soon saw the suspect vehicle. The officer stopped the vehicle and found the driver, McWilliams, was driving without privileges. McWilliams was immediately detained on the DWP charge, questioned, and later arrested on the charge of 2nd degree Murder.
Boise Police have seized the suspect vehicle. It is still being searched for additional evidence at this hour. A motive for the initial conflict between the suspect and victim is still under investigation. Police are not aware, at this point, that there was a prior relationship between the suspect and victim prior to the early morning altercation.
The investigation is still very active. Again, Boise Police want to thank the witnesses for their cooperation in investigating this case.
NOTE: Information given to Boise Police is the suspect will NOT be arraigned in 4th District Court today, the arrest happened to late in the morning, however, please check the court dockets for confirmation.
