03-17-09 Arrest in Cab Driver Aggravated Battery

Police arrest a Nampa for reportedly attacking a cab driver.

Arrested: Christopher M. Ybarguen, 26, Nampa

    Charges: Aggravated Battery (F)

Early this morning (March 17th) at approximately 2:15 a.m. Boise Police responded to a fight in progress at 6th and Main. The victim, who operates a taxi, tells police that he had been giving the suspect, later identified as Christopher Ybarguen, a ride home from the area of University and Juanita. According to the victim when the taxi reached the area of 6th and Main, the suspect asked the taxi to stop and Ybarguen attempted to get out of the taxi without paying for the fare.

Multiple witnesses tell police that the victim got out of the taxi and attempted to stop Ybarguen, however, the suspect left the taxi on foot. When the victim yelled to Ybarguen that he had called the police, the suspect returned to the taxi and began yelling at the driver. Witnesses say that's when the victim bent down to get a clipboard he had dropped on the ground and Ybarguen allegedly kicked the driver in the face causing what may be a broken nose. The suspect then attempted to walk away headed westbound when several witnesses detained him and called police.

The suspect who appeared to be highly intoxicated at the time was taken into custody without incident.

The victim was transported to the hospital by paramedics with what appeared to be non life threatening injuries at the time.
