10-23-08 Graffiti Cleanup Volunteers Needed

Boise October 23rd, 2008 - On November 15th Boise PD will partner with neighbors for "Keep Boise Beautiful Day" to clean up graffiti and volunteers are needed! The department is looking for 75 volunteers to participate in the cleanup activities from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Volunteers will be painting and cleaning up unsightly blemishes on our community! All necessary materials will be provided to volunteers who should dress appropriately for cleaning and painting activities. It has been proven that prompt removal of graffiti greatly decreases repeated incidence of graffiti.

How to volunteer: Call 208-373-5489. A representative will return phone calls within 24 hours of the time the call is received.

Where: 75 Registered volunteers are going to start off at 7200 Barrister, meeting in the front parking lot at 10 am. until 2pm November 15th


Citizens are urged to report graffiti to a single source - non-emergency police dispatch, 377-6790.

Graffiti Facts:
  • Boise has seen a 300% increase in reported graffiti in the past five years.
  • More than 600 cases of graffiti were reported in Boise in 2007.
  • Graffiti is one of the most commonly complained about crimes in Boise City. Citizens concerned graffiti is evidence of neighborhood deterioration.
  • Removing graffiti quickly is proven to reduce incidence of graffiti. 
      Graffiti Issue in Boise:
      The vast majority of the graffiti in Boise is called "Tagging". Tagging is a signature or symbol used by a tagger or a group of taggers. Tagging is not gang graffiti. Taggers motivation is public exposure, on signs, billboards, buildings, or through the media.
