10-09-08 Meth Bust Reveals Animal Neglect

10-09-08 Meth Bust Reveals Animal Neglect
Boise, Oct. 9, 2008, 5:30 p.m. - Boise Police are currently on scene at a trailer home at 4210 State st., #7, where the resident of the home was just arrested for felony drug possession.
Animal Control officials are also on scene. When officers arrived with a search warrant at the site this afternoon, they found dozens of cats living in the home that had apparently been neglected. Many of the more than 30 cats appear to be in very poor physical shape. The cats are being gathered by Animal Control and will be taken to the shelter for evaluation.
"Drug use often leads to child neglect, and in this case, it appears to have led to animal neglect," said Sgt. PD Burch of the Boise Police Neighborhood Contact Officer unit. "No one wants to see animals neglected. Sadly, this animal abuse appears to be largely the outcome of drug abuse."
   Arrested: Connie Shaffer, 49, Boise
Charge: Possession of meth (F), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (m)
