09-17-08 Possible Sexual Assault

09-17-08 Possible Sexual Assault

Boise, Sept. 17, 2008 - Boise Police are searching for a young woman who may have been the victim of a sexual assault. The woman is featured in a videotape that is approx. six years old, but was only recently given to Boise Police detectives.

"No one has been charged with anything at this time," said Sgt. Kip Higby of the Boise Police Special Victims Unit. "The sexual activity on the tape looks like it occurred while the woman was incapacitated and not able to give her consent. To get the full story, we need to talk to the woman involved, if she'd like to talk to us."

The videotape was recently given to Boise Police by someone not involved in the incident. It was taken approx. six years ago, likely between July of 2002 and July of 2003 at a West Boise apartment.

"We want to give this woman the opportunity to come forward." said Sgt. Higby.

Detectives say there is no statute of limitations on sexual assault if the victim has yet to disclose the crime to police.

Two men also appear on the videotape. They have been identified and interviewed by officers. The men were not able to positively identify the woman.

The woman has been identified only as "Steph". She appears to be in her early 20's and may be close to 30 years old today. She has blonde hair, and a distinctive, half-dollar size round tattoo on her lower back. She is also known to have frequented a 6th & Main bar, the Diggy Bass Room, which now operates under a different name.

If the woman would like to come forward and speak to officers, or if anyone has more information, they're urged to call Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS.
