08-22-08 Back To School Traffic Alert

08-22-08 Back To School Traffic Alert

Boise August 22nd, 2008 - Boise Police Officers would like to remind motorists that schools will once again be centers of activity as kids return to the classroom. With the increase in pedestrian traffic around schools extra precautions should be taken. Officers urge motorists to pay attention to the posted speeds and watch for flashing yellow lights which mean children may be walking or riding bikes near the school grounds. Officers advise motorists that they regularly conduct special patrols to enforce speed laws around school zones, and these patrols continue through the school year. Boise Motor Officers will be watching school zones closely over the next few weeks as kids return to class.

"We work hard to keep our school zones as safe as possible for our young people. It is the responsibility of every motorist to watch out for kids in school zones." says Kyle Christensen of the Boise Police Motors Unit.

In Boise, the speed limit in school zones is 20 miles per hour while the yellow lights are flashing. The fine for speeding in a school zone in Boise is $141.50 per city ordinance.

A new Statewide code this year makes the fine for speeding in a school zone anywhere in the State of Idaho $140.00
