06-05-08 Arrest in Overnight DUI & Crash

Boise June 5th, 2008 - A overnight pursuit and crash resulted in the arrest of a Boise man for DUI and other charges.

What happened: At approximately 11:32 PM on June 4th a Boise Police Officer was patrolling the area of Orchard and Franklin. The officer observed a vehicle with expired and canceled registration and attempted to stop the white SUV. The officer activated his emergency lights but the driver failed to stop. The white SUV proceeded into the Jack in the Box at 1302 South Orchard and the driver began ordering food. The Boise Officer with lights still activated pulled in behind the SUV and approached the driver. The driver, Mr, Bruce E Groce, identified himself and handed over his drivers license.

Then the Boise man pulled away from the officer and accelerated at a high rate of speed turning north onto Orchard. The officer pursued him with his emergency lights as the driver continued to accelerate to speeds exceeding 50 miles per hour. The officer observed the SUV begin to fish tail and for safety reasons the pursuit was discontinued. A few minutes later the vehicle was found crashed on the 3900 block of Kootenai place with no driver. Officers canvassed the area for the suspect who was located a short time later on foot near Orchard and Albion.

Arrested: Bruce E. Groce, 19 years old of Boise

Charges: Eluding a Police Officer Felony, misdemeanor leaving the scene of an accident and Misdemeanor DUI
