Release Issued by Meridian Police Department, 5/16, 10:54 p.m.:

Suspect in Motorhome Pursuit arrested, Officer Injured

Meridian Police arrested Danny J. Welch, 52 yrs, tonight after he attacked another officer. Welch was wanted by Boise Police Department after he led them on a pursuit earlier in the week, he in which he attempted to run over an officer. Two Meridian Police Officers stopped a vehicle containing three occupants, on Main Street for a minor traffic violation.   As an Officer was talking to the driver, he noticed all occupants were acting nervous.  Welch, seated in the passenger side back seat, opened the door and started to get out.  The female officer on the passenger side, told Welch to get back in the car.  He told the Officer “No!” and as the officer moved forward, he attacked her.

A struggle ensued with the other officer providing assistance however, Welch violently resisted, while taking an aggressive stance towards the officers.  One officer attempted to call for more assistance but did not realize that the cord from his radio had been ripped off.  The officers were ultimately able to control Welch and handcuff him but the female officer suffered an injured arm.  She was transported to the hospital for treatment.  It was determined that she suffered some contusions and a laceration that required suturing.

The Officers found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the car and on Welch.  They also found methamphetamine on the driver of the car.  Welch was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the altercation then booked in the Ada County Jail.  He was charged with Aggravated Battery on a Police Officer, Possession of a Controlled Substance.  The driver, Justin W. Ackerland, 20 yrs, and the other passenger, Rachelle L. Riley, 20 yrs, both of Eagle, were booked for Possession of a Controlled Substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and obstruct & delay of an officer.
