04-05-08 Arrest Made Shot fired into Traffic

Boise, April 5, 2008 - Officers responded to the area of Fairview and Cloverdale at about 4:35 pm when dispatch received several calls of a man firing a pistol from a nearby residents.

Upon arrival, officers closed traffic east and westbound on Fairview between Cloverdale and Venture for about 20 minutes until the suspect was contacted inside his residence via telephone.

The suspect, identified as Craig A. Johnson, 50, was taken into custody without incident a short time later. The investigation revealed that Johnson exited his residence carrying a handgun. He then raised the handgun and fired one shot toward an occupied vehicle sitting in traffic on Fairview. One person was inside the vehicle. The shot missed the vehicle and struck a nearby tree. The incident appears random as the motorist and suspect do not know each other.

Johnson was booked into the Ada COunty Jail on one count of Aggravated Assault. His booking photo can be located on the Ada County Jail web site.

Release prepared by Lt. Doug Doney.
