02-07-08 Suspect in Sexual Assaults Identified

Boise, Feb. 7, 2007 - Boise Police Detectives, working with Detectives from Meridian Police, have identified a suspect in a series of sexual assaults that have been occurring in both cities for months.

Arrest Warrant Exists for: Andy D. Gallegos, 19, Meridian

Charges: Sexual Assault of a Child Under 16 (f), Aggravated Assault (f), 5 cts. Battery (m)

Background: Boise Police detectives believe Gallegos is the suspect responsible for a series of attacks on women that began in March of 2006 in and around Boise's North End (see news releases issued 9-13-07 and 1-11-08 at

Working with Meridian Police Detectives, officers noticed similarities in cases occurring in central Meridian over the past several months.

In each case the man would walk up to the female victim who was walking alone in the dark, early morning hours, and grab and grope her. When the victim would begin to resist or yell, the suspect would run off.

The two felonies involve attacks where one victim was under age 16, the other where the attack was extremely sexually aggressive.

Detectives say Gallegos is also a suspect in several other similar attacks and more charges may be pending.

Detectives from both Meridian Police and Boise Police are asking the public if they know Gallegos's whereabouts to please call Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS.

Detectives also ask if there are victims of similar crimes that have gone unreported, to please call Crime Stoppers or non-emergency dispatch at 377-6790.
