11-26-07 Officers Search for Hit & Run Driver

Boise, Nov. 26, 2007 - Boise Police are searching for a car that hit a child on his bike this morning in a crosswalk near Fairmont Jr. High.

Responding officers say a 12 year old boy was on his bike in the crosswalk headed toward the school crossing Cole from east to west at 7:28 a.m.. Witnesses say oncoming traffic had a red light. Witnesses tell officers a car ran the red light and hit the child. Paramedics responded but the boy appeared okay. The boy did continue onto school, but his bike was damaged enough it couldn't be ridden.

Witnesses tell officers after the car hit the child, the driver slowed down, rolled the passenger's side window down to look at the boy, who had fallen, then drove off. Now officers are searching for the car and the driver that hit him and asking the public's help.

The vehicle is described as a white passenger car, a Honda or Toyota-type vehicle.

The driver is described by witnesses as a male, possibly 17 - 18 years old and wearing a beanie. The driver appeared to be the only person in the car.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS.
