09-03-07 Kidnapping

    Boise, Sept. 3, 2007 - Boise Police have arrested a man and charged him with kidnapping after he was found with a 7 year old girl who'd been reported missing by her family.

    Arrested: Jason T. Mills, 32, no known address

    Charged: Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault

    What Happened: Officers were called to a home in the area of 28th & State shortly after 9:00 p.m. Sunday evening. Officers were told the girl had been missing for a couple hours, and police were called after the family had tried unsuccessfully to find her.  

    Officers began an immediate door to door search of the neighborhood. As neighbors were notified of the missing child, several offered to help in the search. eventually a group of about 20 citizens were combing the neighborhood assisting police in looking for the lost girl. One neighbor told officers they had seen the child with a man believed to be a transient.

    Approx. 11:00 p.m., a group of citizen searchers saw the girl with a man in a vacant lot near 27th & Pleasanton. The man began to run and was followed the citizens who stopped and detained him until police could arrive. The girl was returned home safely. 

    What Happened: After some investigation it appears the suspect is unknown to the child and her family. Officers say the girl was apparently walking near her home when she came across the suspect on a street corner. The two apparently then spent the next several hours together walking along the greenbelt.

    Detectives search for more Witnesses: Officers are asking anyone who may have seen the suspect and a young old girl walking on the greenbelt west from 27th Street, or surrounding areas sometime between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Sunday to please call Crime Stoppers. Again, anyone who may have seen the suspect and a young girl during the times listed above to please call Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS.
