Homicide Investigation Continues

Boise, April 23, 2007 - Boise Police continue to investigate leads from a homicide reported Friday at an apartment on the 5600 blk of Dorian, near Curtis and Overland.

The crime was reported at 12:20 p.m. Friday by friends and a relative of the victim who immediately called police after they went to the victim's apartment and found the victim dead inside.

The Ada County Coroner has identified the victim as Fernando Leon Bayesteros, 26 of Boise. The coroner reported Saturday Bayesteros died after being strangled and stabbed in his apartment. It appears the crime occurred 2 - 3 days prior to being discovered.

Officers at the scene Friday could  not find the victim's car. The Boise Police Department put out an alert to the community through local media asking citizens to watch for the vehicle and call police if they know where police can locate the vehicle. The vehicle of interest was described as a 1994 Mitsubishi Galant, maroon 4 door with Ada County license plate 1A JP908.

On Saturday, a citizen spotted the car in Garden City. The citizen followed the car through traffic as he called 9-1-1. Boise Police, with the help of Garden City Police Officers were able to pull the car over near the fairgrounds without incident. An adult male driver, the only occupant of the car, was detained for questioning. That man remains in police custody, however no charges have been filed in connection with the homicide.

This is a very active ongoing homicide investigation. Detectives remain hopeful their leads will find the person or persons responsible. At this time, more details are not available for release.
