Arrest in Baseball Bat Attack

Arrest in Baseball Bat Attack

Boise, April 5, 2007 - A Boise man was arraigned this afternoon on charges of Aggravated Battery after Boise Police arrested him yesterday for allegedly beating two children with a baseball bat.

      Arrested: Clinton Caldwell, 36, Boise

Charged: Aggravated Battery. Caldwell remains in the Ada County Jail on $1 million dollars bond.

Officers say the children, a 11 year old girl and a 13 boy, are from Eastern Idaho and were visiting Caldwell's bench-area home. The children tell police they were in the home alone with Caldwell when they say he came out of a bedroom with an aluminum baseball bat and began hitting them.

Both children were hit with the bat, but were able to run outside and flag down a passing motorist near the intersection of Latah and Nex Perce. The motorist called 9-1-1. Officers responded quickly and located Caldwell on a sidewalk near his home. Caldwell did not cooperate with officers and officers had to deploy a Taser to get Caldwell into custody.

Officers believe Caldwell may have been under the influence of drugs.

The children were taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that included a broken bone.
