Update: Search for Missing Persons

Update: Search for Missing Persons

Update: February 14th, 8:30 a.m. - The three missing persons were found late last night after becoming stranded in their vehicle in a remote area of Boise County.

According to the Boise County Sheriff's Department, the trio had become stranded off Rabbit Creek Rd off Hwy. 21. Ashley Benbrook reportedly was able to walk out to safety late yesterday. He directed search crews to Burkey and Dobyns. Dobyns was found and hospitalized. Unfortunately, according to the Sheriff's search teams, Burkey died on the mountain prior to being rescued. Further information will be released by the Boise County Sheriff's Dept.

Original Release:     Boise, February 13, 2007, 1:15 p.m. - Boise Police are coordinating the search for three people reported missing after a hunting trip Saturday. The three are from Boise, and when they failed to return home, friends and family reported them missing to Boise PD last night.

Missing: Joseph Dobyns, 32; Ashley Benbrook (a male), 24; Jennifer Burkey, 18.

Family and friends say they believe the trio was driving a 2004 or 2005 Silver Dodge Durango with Ada license plates 1A ME141. Detectives say the three were last seen approx. 5:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10th headed to either the Kuna area or an area near Blacks Creek to go hunt coyotes.

Right now, Boise Police Detectives say the concern is that the friends may be stranded and unable to call for help. Detectives say there is no evidence of foul play.

Boise Police Detectives have coordinated an air search with Idaho Search & Rescue, who are launching two fixed wing aircraft with observers to scout the areas specifically near Kuna and Blacks Creek, which may cover areas including Owyee, Ada, Elmore and Boise Counties. Complicating the search is the lack of specific information on exactly where the friends are.

At this point, detectives are hopeful the air search is successful in locating the missing friends.

Cost for the aircraft is being paid for by the Idaho State Search & Rescue fund. The spotters assisting in the air search are volunteers.
