Officers Urge Drivers To Watch Out for Busses

Boise, August 32, 2006. Boise Police Officers want to remind drivers that as school goes into full swing they will see more school buses on the roads. Officers remind drivers that there are specific rules when it comes to passing a school bus when stop signs and lights on the bus indicate they should stop.

Motorists should know:

• When a school bus is stopped with the sign out and lights are flashing red it is unlawful to pass the buss if there are three lanes of traffic or less, including a passing lane.

• If there are four or more lanes, it is still unlawful to pass if you are traveling in the same direction as the bus.

Officers urge drivers to use caution when you are traveling in the area of a school bus due to the presence of children who may or may not be paying attention to the vehicles around them.

Officers say it’s up to motorists to take the extra time to watch for children and help prevent accidents that no one wants to see in our community.
