The Boise Police Telephone Reporting Units mission is to improve
public service by giving citizens an easy, convenient way to file
police reports.
Boise Police Telephone Report Specialists assist citizens over
the telephone in reporting crimes. TRU receives hundreds of
calls a week on everything from lost property to telephone
harassment.
Since the 1980s, when the unit was formed, the department has
found citizens prefer making a phone report for some types of
crimes. The department has found that without TRU, some
crimes may not be reported. The unit provides, not only a
convenient service for citizens, but saves officers valuable time
when a report may be called in by phone.
TRU Report specialists are civilian employees of the Boise
Police Department, with training in customer service and
report writing procedures. Knowledge of Boise City code,
and various aspects of Idaho law is required. TRU Specialists
take telephone reports and when necessary, route calls to the
appropriate division within the Boise POlice Department. If a
citizen report does indeed require officer assistance, TRU will
have an officer dispatched for more investigation.
You may consider calling the Telephone Report Unit if you are a
victim of...
- Grant Theft, Petit Theft, Residential Commercial or Vehicle
Burglary, Harassing Phone Calls, Fraud, Forgery, No Contact Order
and Protection Order Violations, Battery & Assault Reports (not
in progress), Various Miscellaneous Reports (not requiring the
presence of an officer)
