Man charged with murder in Sierra Bush case back in Ada County


The Boise man charged with murder for the death of Sierra Bush has been extradited back to Idaho.  Bruce Marchant was booked into the Ada County Jail on Thursday morning.  Please check the Ada County Court calendar for further details in court proceedings.

Boise Police identify and charge a man for the death of Sierra Bush

Boise Police, in cooperation with police in New York City, have arrested a man for the death of Sierra Bush.

Arrested: Bruce Marchant, 61, Boise (last known address)

Charges: Murder (F), Rape (F), Kidnapping – First Degree (F)

Timeline: Tuesday, Dec. 6th, Boise Police requested an arrest warrant and one was issued on the above charges for Bruce Marchant.

Wednesday, Dec. 7th, Boise Police received information that Marchant was in a New York City hospital and BPD detectives flew to New York to assist in his arrest.

Thursday, Dec. 8th, Marchant was arrested by New York City Police.  Boise Police detectives are in New York continuing the investigation.

Investigation: Boise Police detectives have been investigating the disappearance and death of 18-year-old Sierra Bush since September.  An arrest warrant was issued on Dec. 6th after a thorough investigation that included gathering evidence and conducting nearly 200 interviews. Detectives from nearly every investigative unit in the department assisted and members of the BPD crime lab did extensive work that was instrumental in making this arrest. Boise Police also had assistance from the Boise County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, Boise County Coroner’s Office, Ada County Coroner’s Office and the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit.

Boise Police will seek to extradite Marchant back to Idaho and the timing of the extradition will be handled by the appropriate courts.

The case is being handled by the Ada County Prosecutors Office. Please direct further inquiries to the prosecutor.

Previously released: Tuesday, October 25, 2016

At 7:46 p.m. on Saturday, October 22nd, a deceased female was located in an outdoor location just south of Idaho City in Boise County.  The Boise County Coroner’s Office has identified her as 18-year-old Sierra Bush, of Boise, who was reported missing in late September. 

“At this time, the cause of death is still under investigation,” said Boise County Coroner Pam Garlock.   

Boise Police detectives are now part of a joint investigation along with the Boise County Coroner’s Office and the Boise County Sheriff’s Department to determine the cause and circumstance of her death. 

“Sierra’s disappearance has been suspicious from the beginning and this is a tragic discovery for everyone who knows her,” said Boise Police Sgt. Justin Kendall. “Every missing person’s case is initially investigated as being suspicious and Sierra was not the type to disappear without telling anyone. For weeks, our detectives have been following up on leads and our investigation is ongoing.”

Officers continue to ask the public for any information in regards to the disappearance of Sierra, to call Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS.  Officers also ask that the person who contacted emergency personnel in Boise County on Saturday night to make them aware of the circumstance, to please contact Boise Police at 570-6290. 

The investigation remains ongoing.
