Arrested: Nicholas R. Hiler, 42, Boise
Charged: DUI (F)
Boise Police responded to a citizen's call of a possible driver under the influence last night, Monday, July 29th at 7:45 p.m. The citizen told dispatchers they were following a vehicle that ran over the median, was swerving between lanes, driving down the yellow line and would not go at a stop sign. The citizen continued to follow the suspected DUI driver at a safe distance while on the phone with dispatchers, providing officers their location and a detailed description of the suspect vehicle. Officers caught up to the suspect on S. Maple Grove Road at W. Ottowa Drive. While speaking with the suspect, identified as Hiler, officers noticed an odor of an alcoholic beverage, his eyes were glassy and bloodshot and his speech was slurred. The suspect failed field sobriety tests, was arrested and taken to the Ada County Jail where a blood draw was taken for evidence purposes.
Last night's DUI arrest was Hiler's third, making it a felony. Hiler was last arrested for DUI last week, on July 25, 2013. On that date, Hiler was arrested and charged by Boise Police after his vehicle collided with another at approximately 9:00 p.m. at S. Maple Grove Road and W. Overland Road. Although the crash was minor, witnesses told officers Hiler failed to stop to exchange information with the other involved driver. The victim followed the suspect and called 911 telling dispatchers what had just happened. Witnesses also told officers the suspect had two young children in the car with him at the time of the collision. Officers soon caught up with Hiler and, after investigating, arrested him on misdemeanor DUI, leaving the scene of an accident and two counts of injury to a child.
Hiler has a previous DUI conviction in May, 2009 after an arrest by Boise Police in July the previous year.
