Alleged car thief chooses target of opportunity and lands in jail; Daily incident report

   Arrested: Mark D. Delamotte, 26, Boise

   Charges: Grand Theft (F)

    Boise Police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle from a parking lot on the 8300 block of West Overland Road Tuesday afternoon, August 28th, at approximately 4:30 p.m. The victim tells police he mistakenly left the keys to his passenger car on the trunk and entered a nearby retail store. When the victim returned, the vehicle had been stolen. Boise Police officers and detectives conducted a detailed investigation into the vehicle theft and obtained evidence that indicated the suspect was responsible for taking the car. After a detailed investigation officers arrested the suspect yesterday, August 29th, and charged him with Grand Theft. The stolen vehicle was recovered from a parking lot at Franklin and Maple Grove Streets. The suspect was transported to the Ada County Jail and booked on the above listed charges.

TITLE 18 CRIMES AND PUNISHMENTS CHAPTER 24 THEFT 18-2407. Grading of theft. Theft is divided into two (2) degrees, grand theft and petit theft. (1)  Grand theft. (b)  A person is guilty of grand theft when he commits a theft as defined in this chapter and when:1.  The value of the property taken exceeds one thousand dollars ($1,000);
