Arrested: Jeffrey S. Arnold II, 24, Boise
Charges: Aggravated Assault (F), Resisting and Obstructing (m)
Boise Police deployed a Taser to help control and arrest a man carrying a sword and another knife and reportedly using those weapons to threaten an employee of a church near the Boise State campus this morning. Officers were called to the church on the 1600 block of W. Martha St. at approximatley 8:45 this morning. Multiple witnesses told officers that a short time earlier the suspect, wearing shorts under a lion cloth and a Samurai style headband, had attempted to enter the church carrying a large Samurai sword and a dagger. Officials at the church denied the suspect entry and he became aggitated. At one point, witnesses say the suspect threatened an employee of the church, resulting in the felony aggravated assault charge. The witnesses say the suspect then left the area. Officers responding to the call, located the suspect on the street a few yards from the church as he appeared to be returning to the church a second time. Officers instructed the suspect, who was still wearing the sword at his waist and carrying the dagger in a sheath, to get down on the ground. The suspect refused to comply with officers instructions. Officers continued to order the suspect to get on the ground when the suspect reached for the sword and began to unsheathe it. For the safety of the public and the officers on scene, officers deployed a Taser on the suspect. That allowed officers to quickly move in and take the man into custody without further incident. No one was seriously injured as a result of this incident. The suspect was transported to the Ada County Jail and booked on the above listed charges.
