02-10-12 Taxi Driver cited for DUI after colliding with Garden
City Patrol Car
Boise, Feb 10, 2012 - Boise Police have
cited a cab driver for driving under the influence when he hit a
Garden City Police patrol car at the intersection of Adams Street
and Veterans Memorial Parkway this morning.
The Garden City officer who was hit was
able to call in the crash himself at 7:18 a.m.. He was treated and
released for minor injuries at a Boise hospital. According to
Garden City Police, the officer is resting and recovering at home
this afternoon.
What Happened:Boise Police patrol
officers and crash reconstruction specialists talked to several
witnesses who confirm the taxi cab driver was traveling north on
VMP, ran a red light and collided with the patrol vehicle as the
officer traveled with the green light westbound on Adams St.
Cited: James Huffman, 62, Boise
Charged: DUI (M), 2nd arrest (previous
DUI arrest was in Kootenai County in Nov., 2003)
Boise Police are investigating the crash
at the request of Garden City Police. Investigating officers have
been told Huffman is not seriously injured, but is still at a Boise
hospital this afternoon for observation. Officers say,
although Huffman was driving the cab, he reportedly was on his way
to work and did not have a fare or passenger inside the cab at the
time of the crash.
