08-16-11 Playground Fire is Arson
Boise, August 16,
2011 - Boise Police & Fire investigators say a fire overnight
at a West Boise playground was intentionally set. Officers are
actively searching for any information that will lead to whoever is
responsible and they're asking the public's help.
"The neighbors I talked to are
devastated," said Det. Mike Hill, an arson investigator for the
Boise Police Department.
"Parents and grandparents were saying
how much their children enjoyed playing on the equipment. They say
the neighborhood itself put a lot of effort into getting the park
and the playground renovated and now it's a total loss." said Det.
What Happened:Boise Firefighters were
called at 3:49 this morning by a citizen who saw the playground
equipment on fire at the Nottingham Neighborhood Park at 5243 N.
Decatur Dr. Firefighters put the flames out quickly, but not before
the entire jungle gym was destroyed, either by the flames or melted
from the heat. Fire investigators estimate the playground equipment
is a $50,000 loss.
Investigators say the equipment was made
of plastic and plastic coated metal. They have no doubt the fire
was set intentionally.
Asking the Public's help:Anyone who has
any information on who may be responsible for starting the fire at
the Nottingham Neighborhood Park is urged to call Crime Stoppers at
343-COPS or log onto www.343cops.com, or text CRIMES or 274637,
subject: Tip236. A citizen can remain anonymous. A reward of up to
$1,000 is offered by Crime Stoppers for information leading to the
arrest of criminal suspects.
