Bike officer catches burglary suspect in the act; Weekend incident report

08-08-11 Bike officer catches burglary suspect in the act; Weekend incident report

    Arrested: Dana E. Ranstrom, 44, Boise

   Charges: 2 counts of Burglary (F), Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana)(m), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (m)

    A Boise Police officer on the bike patrol unit conducted a check of a property near the greenbelt on the 2800 block of W. Fletcher St. Saturday, August 6th, at approximately 7:15 p.m. This property has been the victim of vandalism and theft recently. The officer located a suspect near a cut portion of the fence stuffing copper wire into a backpack. A detailed investigation revealed evidence that the suspect had taken the wire from the commercial property. A search of the suspect following his arrest revealed a small amount of marijuana and a glass pipe. Further investigation indicated the suspect was involved in a prior burglary on the same property on August 4th of this month. During that burglary more wire had been stolen resulting in the second burglary charge. Officers have evidence the suspect was going to take the stolen wire and sell it as scrap to recyclers. The suspect was transported to the Ada County Jail and booked on the above listed charges.

    Arrested: Nicholas J. Dowdle, 18, Emmett

    Charges: Burglary (F)

    Boise Police responded to a citizen's report of prowler in a neighborhood near Five Mile and Victory Saturday, August 6th, at approximately 3:00 a.m. The witness tells police she observed the suspect shinning a flashlight in her front window. Officers located the suspect in the immediate area and determined he had been involved in the burglary of a vehicle parked nearby. The suspect was a juvenile male and several stolen items were recovered from his person. As officers searched the area they located a second suspect, later identified as Nicholas Dowdle, sleeping behind a utility box. Officers recovered additional stolen property taken during the vehicle burglary on the suspects person. Nicholas Dowdle was transported to the Ada County Jail and booked on the above listed charges. The juvenile suspect was transported to a juvenile detention facility and booked on a burglary charge. Officers say up to 15 vehicle burglaries were reported in the same area early Saturday morning. Officers are investigating any possible connection to the suspects and the additional vehicle burglaries.

  Arrested: Jonathan P. Velasquez, 18, Boise

   Charges: Grand Theft by Possession (F)

    Boise Police received a report of stolen jewelry that had been taken from a residence near Northview St. and N. Cole Road on August 5th. The incident was reported to police on August 8th. A detailed investigation revealed the suspect had taken the items from the home while visiting a third party. Pieces of the stolen jewelry were recovered from the suspect and returned to the victim with an estimated value of more than $2,500. The suspect was transported to the Ada County Jail and booked on the above listed charges.

  Arrested: Matthew L. McLeod, 30, Emmett

   Charges: Burglary (F), Battery (m)

    Boise Police responded to a report of a disturbance on the 600 block of W. Idaho St. yesterday, August 7th, at approximately 11:45 p.m. Witnesses tell police a private party was taking place at the establishment upstairs. At one point the victim, an adult female who was working at the event went downstairs. The victim tells officers she found two people in the bar area drinking alcohol. The victim tells police she confronted the suspects. One unidentified man ran out the front door and fled the scene. The victim tells officers she attempted to stop the second man, later identified as McLeod from fleeing when he began kicking and punching her in an attempt to get out of her grasp. As the struggle was ongoing a third party called 911. When officers arrived the suspect was still struggling with the victim and was taken into custody. Officers determined the bar cabinet had been broken into, causing damage to the cabinets. A bottle of vodka and beer had been partially consumed. Officers believe the suspects entered the establishment with the intent to deprive the establishment of goods without paying for it, resulting in the burglary charge. The suspect was transported to the Ada County Jail and booked on the above listed charges.

    Arrested: Glen A. Warwick, 80, Boise

    Charges:Driving Under the Influence (DUI)(F)

    A Boise Police officer on patrol observed a vehicle failing to maintain its lane westbound on the connector Sunday, August 7th, just after midnight at approximately 12:30 a.m. As officers approached the driver, Warwick, they could smell alcohol. The suspect failed several field sobriety tests and blew a .08/.08 at the Ada County Jail. A check through Ada County records indicated the suspect had two prior convictions for DUI in September, 2001 and June, 2002, making this charge a felony. The suspect was booked at the Ada County Jail on the above listed charges.
