Man Arrested after burglary, firing shots in victim's home

07-28-11 Man Arrested after burglary, firing shots in victim's home

Boise, July 28, 2011 - Boise Police arrested a man overnight after he allegedly walked into a stranger's home, wrestled with the resident over a gun causing shots to be fired, pointed the gun at the resident, then was found by police carrying a knife.

Arrested:  Michael S. Walker, 26, Boise
Charged: Assault (F), Burglary (F)

Boise Police were called to a home in the neighborhood southeast of N. Maple Grove & W. McMillan Roads at midnight last night. The initial call was a man with a gun firing shots. As officers were en route to the call, they too could hear shots fired.

Several minutes later, after clearing a home of potential victims and witnesses, officers found the suspect running in a nearby field carrying a 12 - 14 inch knife. The suspect initially ran from officers, but when cornered, surrendered and was taken into custody.

After some investigation, this is what officer's believe happened:

The suspect, Walker had reportedly been drinking with friends at a home near where the incident occurred. Just before midnight, he left, jumped a fence and entered the victim's home. The suspect and victim did not know each other. The victim ordered Walker out of the home. Both grabbed a nearby handgun belonging to the victim and began struggling. The gun went off inside the home through the ceiling. No one was injured. The struggle continued outside the home where, again, the gun went off. The suspect wrestled the gun away from the victim and pointed the gun at him. The suspect then ran from the home.

The victim, injured from the struggle, went to a nearby trailer home to call police. The victim tells officers as he ran, he could hear more gunshots being fired. Officer's believe the suspect then re-entered the victims home and stole several knives and another handgun, then left.

Officers were unsure of where the armed suspect was and formed a rescue team to safely evacuate several occupants of the home where the victim had run to. The victim was also evacuated by officers and taken by paramedics to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Officers formed several search teams and soon found the suspect hiding then running in a nearby field. He was carrying a long survival-type knife. After a short foot chase through the field, officers cornered the suspect and he surrendered. Officers were able to locate the weapons and knives stolen from the victim's home. The suspect was booked into the Ada County Jail on the above charges.

Boise, July 28, 2011, 1:30 a.m. - Boise Police have one man in custody after witnesses reported hearing shots fired in the neighborhood just southeast of N. Maple Grove & W. McMillan Roads.

What Happened: The incident is still under investigation, but at this time it appears witnesses called police shortly after midnight reporting shots fired outside a home. Officers responded and found one man outside with a large knife in his hand. He was taken into custody without incident. At this time he is being questioned. Witnesses say he had been at the home earlier in the evening.

Officers also found one individual injured inside the home, apparently the victim of a battery ( not a gunshot victim). He was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

At this time, officers are still working to find the gun involved in the shooting.
