04-22-11 Officers make Quick Arrest after Bank Robbery

   Boise, April 22, 2011, 5:10 p.m.- Boise Police have arrested two men in connection with the robbery of the Key Bank on the 4900 blk of W. Overland Rd. this morning. 

    Suspect, Bryan Mark Johnson of Nevada is charged withtwo counts of robbery, including:

  • This morning's Key Bank robbery, 4920 W. Overland Rd.
  • April 2, 2011 robbery of the Wells Fargo Bank at 10342 W. Overland in Boise. See release at: http://www.cityofboise.org/Departments/Police/NewsReleasesDailyArrests/2011/page63799.aspx

     Boise Police and the FBI are working together aggressively on this case investigating the possibility that the suspect Johnson is connected to other bank robberies in the Western US. Johnson is currently on federal felony probation and has a history of bank robbery. 

    Arrested: Bryan Mark Johnson, 54, Nevada

    Charges:Robbery (F) 2 cts, Aggravated Assault (F)

    Arrested: Glen Lantis, 65 , Nevada

    Charge:Accessory to Robbery (F)

    What Happened:Boise Police were called at 9:06 this morning by employees of the bank on the 4900 blk Overland Road reporting a robbery that just occurred. Witnesses said a man walked into the bank and demanded cash. He did not display a weapon. He was seen leaving the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

    Seconds later, police dispatchers received a second report that a man had pointed a handgun at a man driving a pick up truck in the parking lot of a business adjacent to the bank. The description of the both suspects was the same; a man with a white beard, wearing a dark ball cap and a navy sweatshirt.

    A Boise Police patrol officer was near the area when the calls came out. He immediately spotted a man in a passenger car headed north on Orchard matching the suspect description. By 9:09 a.m. officers had the vehicle stopped at gunpoint at the corner of W. Franklin Road and S. Orchard Street. Two men were inside the car, a sedan with Nevada license plates. Lantis was the driver. Almost immediately, officers also discovered evidence they believed linked the two men to the robbery that just occurred. At this time, the nature of that evidence is not available for released. 

    Both men were taken into custody for questioning. They have both been arrested on the above charges and are being booked into the Ada County Jail.

  Boise, April 22, 9:44 a.m. - Boise Police have two people in custody following the robbery of the Key Bank on the 4900 blk of Overland Rd.
 
   Officers responded quickly to the call from bank employees that came into police dispatch at 9:06 a.m. At 9:07 a.m. an officer spotted a man inside a  vehicle matching the suspect description given by witnesses both inside and outside the bank. The vehicle was a gold sedan with Nevada license plates. The description of the suspect was a man with white hair and a white beard wearing a navy sweatshirt and a ball cap.
 
   Officers stopped the vehicle at gunpoint just north of the bank near Franklin & Orchard. The two men inside are being questioned by police at this time. Officers believe they have further evidence at this time that links the man inside the vehicle to the robbery.
 
   This incident is under active investigation. Further information will be released as soon as it's available.
