Officers make Aggravated Assault arrest; weekend incident report

03-07-11 Officers make Aggravated Assault arrest; weekend incident report

Warrant Arrested: Ray F. Alaniz Jr., 36, San Antonio TX.
Warrant Charges: Sexual Battery of a Minor (F)

The arrest warrant stems from an ongoing investigation into allegations of inappropriate conduct that reportedly took place in 2005. The incident was reported to Boise Police in February of 2007. The victim, a juvenile female at the time, tells detectives the conduct took place at a Boise bench home. The suspect is well known to the victim and officers have no reason at this time to believe other victims are involved. Shortly after the incident was reported to police the suspect left the state. Based on the police investigation, Ada County Prosecutors issued a warrant for Alaniz.  The suspect was taken into custody Feb. 9th by US Marshals in San Antonio, Texas. The suspect was extradited to the Ada County Jail late last week.

The following, issued by the US Marshal in Idaho provides more details on the suspect's arrest last month in Texas.

Fugitive on the run for three years arrested

BOISE, Idaho - The U.S. Marshals in Idaho, working with the Ada County Sheriff's Department and the U.S. Marshals in San Antonio, Texas, arrested Ray Alaniz Jr. Feb. 9. Alaniz was wanted in Boise on a charge of sexual battery on a minor.

At the request of the Ada County Sheriff's Department, the U.S. Marshals' Greater Idaho Fugitive Task Force (GIFT) adopted the fugitive investigation into Alaniz' whereabouts in January.

Local Boise Deputy U.S. Marshals developed information Alaniz was in San Antonio, Texas, and sent a request for assistance to the Marshals in that city. The San Antonio Marshals found Alaniz in a residence and arrested him trying to flee out the back door when they approached. Under interstate extradition proceedings, Alaniz was then transported from San Antonio to Boise in custody.

The U.S. Marshals in Idaho coordinate the GIFT Task Force, a multi-agency fugitive task force which consists of the U.S. Marshals Service, the Canyon County Sheriff's Department, the Nampa Police Department and the Ada County Sheriff's Department.

The GIFT Task Force targets fugitives wanted for violent, weapons or sexual offenses and major drug offenses. In 2010, the GIFT Task Force arrested 272 felony fugitives. Every year, the US Marshals Service arrests more fugitives than all other federal agencies combined.
