Woman Arrested after Grand Jury Indictment for Child's Homicide

09-21-10 Woman Arrested after Grand Jury Indictment for Child's Homicide

Boise, Sept. 21, 2010 - Boise Police have arrested a woman following a grand jury indictment charging the woman with the murder of a 2 1/2 year old child. The woman is accused of causing the child's death while he was in her care.

Arrested: Katherine L. Stanfield, 57, Boise

    Charge: 1st degree Murder

What Happened:Boise Police were called to a Boise home at approx 3:45 p.m., Friday, Dec. 11, 2009 to assist Boise Firefighters and Ada County Paramedics with a 2 1/2 year old little boy who was reported to be unresponsive. Paramedics rushed the child to the hospital where he later died. Due to the nature of the child's injuries, detectives with the Boise Police Special Victims unit investigated. Working closely with Ada County Prosecutors, investigators developed evidence that when presented to a Grand Jury this afternoon resulted in the indictment against the suspect Stanfield.

Officers say Stanfield is well known to the child's family. They say the suspect was providing homecare for the child but the home is not a daycare business.

At this time, due to ongoing court proceedings, Boise Police cannot release further details of this case. Further information may be available through the courts.
