Officers Arrest Burglary Suspect After Victim Finds Items on Internet

05-21-10 Officers Arrest Burglary Suspect After Victim Finds Items on Internet
Boise, May 21, 2010 - Boise Police arrested a man after a theft victim later located the items taken posted for sale on the Internet.

Arrested: Stefan J. Pfeiffer-Weller, 21, Boise
Charge: Burglary (F)

What Happened: Boise Police took a report of a burglary at a home early yesterday, Thursday, May 20th. The victim reported that items had recently been taken from the victim's home near Vista and Overland. The items included two electronic gaming stations and several games with a total value of more than $1,000.
Officers were called a second time by the victim yesterday afternoon. The victim told officers they saw the items stolen posted for sale on Craig's List, a popular web site for buying and selling items and services. Using that information, officers were able quickly to identify and locate a suspect, later identified as Pfeiffer-Weller. The suspect was arrested by police at a business not far from the victim's home. The suspect was in possession of the stolen items. Upon further investigation, officers found the suspect is an acquaintance of the victim.

   Crime Prevention Tips:
  •    Boise Police urge citizens with valuable electronics to record the items serial numbers so they can be identified if they are ever lost or stolen and recovered.
  •    Photographs taken of personal valuables are helpful in addition to serial numbers in helping officers identify and return lost or stolen property.
  •     Investigators often recommend to victims of theft that they look through Internet sales sites. Victims know their belongings best. If a victim believes they've found their items for sale on the Internet, they're urged to contact their local police.
