Gang Activity Tips can now go through Crime Stoppers

Gang Activity Tips can now go through Crime Stoppers
Boise, March 12, 2010 - Thanks to cooperation between members of the Boise Police Department Gang Unit and the Boise Area Crime Stoppers, citizens now have an easy, effective new way to report gang activity - through Crime Stoppers.
Gang Unit officers urge citizens to report suspicious activity that appears gang-related through Crime stoppers by logging on to:
  • and clicking on the STOP sign
  • and clicking on the Crime Stoppers logo.
Information that may identify gang activity can include:
  • web sites
  • photos
  • other pertinent information
Citizens can remain completely ANONYMOUS and call, text or complete an online web tip form routed directly to the Boise PD Gang Unit for followup. The system cannot under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES identify the tipster.
"Regarding suspected gang activity, we've had citizens say they want to contact officers but feel they have to stay anonymous. Crime Stoppers allows that," said Sgt. Jeff Basterrechea of the Boise Police Gang Unit. "Crime Stoppers is already a familiar program to people and proven highly successful. We hope that by offering citizens new and trustworthy ways to communicate with officers we can keep a check on gang activity that we know is harmful and dangerous to our community."
