Nurse Charged with Stealing Pain Meds; other weekend felony arrests

02-16-10 Nurse Charged with Stealing Pain Meds; other weekend felony arrests
Boise, Feb 16, 2010 - A Boise man has been charged with illegally possessing narcotic pain medications allegedly stolen from the nursing home where he worked.

Arrested: Eric Machigashira, 49, Boise
Charge: Possession of Prescription Medication by Deception (F) ISC 37-2734(a)

Boise Police were called Friday, Feb. 12th by supervisors at a West Boise nursing home. Nursing home management presented Boise Police with information that later became evidence that a nurse and employee, Machigashira had been taking Morphine and Hydrocodine from supplies at the nursing home, sometimes from patients, and sometimes from the home's emergency supplies.
Evidence shows the theft of the pain meds appears to have been going on for the past several months (the nursing home did not report any hardship or further distress to patients because of the theft). Evidence also shows the suspect appears to have been taking the meds from the home for his own use. After investigating, Boise Police arrested the suspect at his place of employment and booked him into the Ada County jail on the above charge.
