10-28-09 Officers search east Boise after report of man with a knife

UPDATE:

    Boise, Oct. 29, 2009, 6:36 a.m. - BPD is no longer looking for the man from east Boise. He has been in contact with his family.

    Although he hasn't been located, at this time, he's not believed to be a threat to himself or others.

E. Boise search Update

    Boise, Oct. 28, 2009, 1:45 p.m. - Boise Police continue the search for a man reported to be in the area of Law & Burgeson, possibly suicidal and carrying a knife.

    At this time, the man is not accused of any crime, but police are concerned that he may pose a safety threat to the neighborhood. The search continues because of the report, initially from a family member earlier this morning, that the man may be struggling with emotional or medical issues, and may be armed with a knife.

    Description: Light skinned male, mid-20's , 6' 1", thin build 170 lbs, brown hair, blue eyes, wearing faded green camo pants, a green thermal type shirt, and a dark colored beenie cap.

    If anyone in the east Boise area sees or has seen this man, they're asked to call Boise Police dispatch at 377-6790.

E. Boise search Update

    Boise, Oct. 28, 2009, 12:00 p.m. - Boise Police are slowing down their intensive search of a man reportedly in the area who may be suicidal and armed with a knife. The search for the suspect has been very active for the past 2 1/2 hours in both the east Boise and Boise State areas. Officers have not located the suspect.

    There will be a heavy police presence in those areas for at least the rest of the day. However, pending more information, the intensive search is being scaled down at this hour.

    Related Break in? During the search there was a report of a break in at a home on Minuteman near Wright Street. The suspect in that burglary was confronted by the homeowner and ran from the home. Officers cannot confirm the burglary suspect and the reported man with a knife are the same, the homeowner did not see the suspect carrying a weapon, however, officers are investigating whether the two calls are related.

    BSU area search: Also during the east Boise search, an officer saw a man walking who appeared to possibly match the suspect description in the area of University and Lincoln. As the officer approached the man, he ran. That man was not located. Officers also continue to investigate.

    Lockdown's at three area schools have also just been lifted. As a precaution, 3 east Boise schools were placed on lockdown, White Pine and Liberty Elem, and Timberline High School. School Resource Officers were placed in those schools, again as a precaution. There was never a specific threat to the schools.

    Anyone with information on the possible suspect is urged to call Boise Police dispacth or Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS.
